Cessnock City Council's annual tree giveaway is on again. Eligible residents can receive up to six free trees for their property.

People living in the Cessnock Local Government Area who have built a new home during the 2021/22 financial year (1 July 2021 - 30 June 2022) can chose from a range of plants, including ground covers like Star of Jasmine through to shrubs like Coastal Rosemary, bottlebrush and gardenia.

Cessnock City Council Mayor, Jay Suvaal was excited to see the Tree Giveaway happen again.

"We believe in the power of community and nature to create a more beautiful and sustainable future. Our annual tree giveaway provides new homeowners with the opportunity to enhance their properties and contribute to a greener Cessnock," said Mayor Jay Suvaal.

"I encourage all eligible residents to take advantage of this program and join us to make Cessnock a thriving and leafy area."

This program has been running for more than two decades and not only does it beautify Cessnock, it has positive environmental impacts as well.

Applications for the program open on Friday 17 February 2023 and close Friday 3 March 2023, with trees collected on Saturday 18 March 2023.

Anyone wanting to sign up for the scheme can do so online at www.cessnock.nsw.gov.au/tree-giveaway or drop in to Council's Customer Relations Centre on Vincent Street, Cessnock.
