Cessnock City Library will host an exciting series of free, friendly technology workshops for seniors, running from August 2025 through June 2026 at both Cessnock and Kurri Kurri Libraries.

Thanks to the support of the State Library of NSW and Telstra, this initiative will offer 33 hands-on sessions designed to help older residents build confidence and digital skills in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

The workshops will be delivered by Harry Kavadas from Seniors, Tech & Tea, a facilitator renowned for his patient, practical, and engaging teaching style, with each session tailored to meet the needs of seniors, ensuring no one is left behind.

The workshops cover a wide range of essential topics, with highlights including:

  • Making video calls with friends and family
  • Taking, editing and scanning photos to preserve memories
  • Using transport apps and smart assistants
  • Understanding online safety and privacy settings
  • Navigating social media, websites and more

Cessnock City Council Library Services Coordinator Rose-marie Walters says the workshops are a fantastic opportunity for seniors to embrace technology in a stress-free way.

"We often hear that technology feels terrifying or that it's simply too hard to learn," said Ms Walters.

"But with these practical, hands-on workshops, we aim to show how incredibly useful and empowering technology can be."

"It's about building confidence, staying connected, and opening up a world of convenience and enjoyment, all within a supportive community environment right here at your local library."

Workshop spaces are limited and bookings are essential.
