In line with the State Government's reintroduction of Stage 3 restrictions, Bass Coast Shire Council has temporarily closed some of its public facilities. These closures are necessary to slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community.
Council's cleaning crews will continue to clean high-touch surfaces and street furniture in townships and the cleaning schedule on high-use toilet blocks will increase. A number of the lesser used toilet blocks will be closed for the duration of the restrictions.
All playgrounds and skate parks are now closed. While this may present difficulties for families with young children, this is a necessary step under the restrictions set out by the State Government to help keep the community safe.
Recreation Reserves will remain open and can be used for exercise and recreation providing it is possible to maintain physical distancing of 1.5 metres at all times.
Public barbecues and outdoor gyms are also closed, while West Gippsland Libraries has also confirmed that their branches and mobile libraries across Bass Coast will close during Stage 3 restrictions.
Council's CEO, Ali Wastie said that closing community facilities is a difficult but necessary step.
"While I empathise with the difficulties people may face with a second round of Stage 3 restrictions, it's critical that we work together as a community and take all necessary measures to contain the spread of this virus. That is the only way we will get through this," Ms Wastie said.
"I encourage people who are struggling to reach out to organisations that offer a range of support services during these trying times.
"The closures will remain in place until further notice and we will continue to monitor the situation and make other changes as necessary. Keep an eye on our website and social media pages for updates," Ms Wastie concluded.
