Changes to Medicare services in Greater Geelong region

Staff and services provided at the Waurn Ponds Medicare Service Centre will co-locate into the nearby Geelong Service Centre from Monday 9 December 2019.

Department of Human Services General Manager Hank Jongen said the move comes as more people are choosing to access digital Medicare services.

'We are working to continually improve and adapt to how people choose to interact with our department,' Mr Jongen said.

'We've seen a great uptake in the use of digital Medicare services, with almost 99 per cent of all patient-claimed GP services now being claimed electronically.

'While more people are accessing online options, locals who require more personalised or intensive support will have continued access to face-to-face Medicare services at the Geelong Service Centre.'

People can easily make a Medicare claim through myGov or by using the Medicare app at a time and place that suits them. Locals who wish to access face-to-face Medicare services can visit the Geelong Service Centre Monday to Friday, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
