Changes to school speed zones

Shorter school speed zone times start in Cairns from Monday 2 March.

The changes, which have been approved by the Department of Transport and Main Roads, will see a reduction of times to the 40km/h speed zones at most schools in Cairns Local Government Area.

All schools in the Cairns Local Government Area will have a designated 1.5 hour speed zone in the morning (7.30am to 9am) and a one hour zone in the afternoon (2.30pm to 3.30pm), with the exception of:

  • Our Lady Help of Christians School (Balaclava Rd, Earlville): 1.5 hours in the morning (7.30am to 9am) and afternoon (2pm-3.30pm)
  • Cairns West State School (Mayers St, Manunda): 1.5 hours in the morning (7.30am to 9am) and afternoon (2pm-3.30pm)
  • Parramatta State School, (Severin St and Minnie St, Parramatta Park): 1.5 hours in the morning (7.30am to 9am) and afternoon (2pm-3.30pm)
  • St Gerard Majella School and St Mary's Catholic College (Anderson St, Woree): 1.5 hours in the morning (7.30am to 9am) and afternoon (2.30pm-4pm).
  • Redlynch State College (Jungara Rd, Redlynch): 8 hours (from 7.30am-3.30pm).
