Charge laid after man struck with machete in Armidale

A man will face court after allegedly injuring a man with a machete in the state’s Northern Tablelands, NSW Police say.

About 2.30am on Sunday 10 June 2018, two men, aged 30 and 33, became involved in an argument at a service station on the corner of Marsh and Dumaresq Streets, Armidale, before leaving in separate vehicles.

It will be alleged the 33-year-old man attended a home on Morris Street, about 2.45am. The 30-year-old man opened the door and struck the older man with the machete.

The 33-year-old man ran from the scene and contacted emergency services.

He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for a laceration to his throat, before being taken to Armidale Hospital, where he underwent surgery.

Officers attached to New England Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.

The 30-year-old man was arrested and taken to Armidale Police Station where he was charged with wound with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail and is due to appear at Armidale Local Court on Monday 11 June 2018.
