Charge laid over malicious wounding at Chippendale hotel

A man will appear in court today following a malicious wounding at a hotel in Chippendale last month.

About 6.30pm (Friday 28 June 2019), a 25-year-old man attended a hotel on Regent Street, Chippendale, where he met up with friends.

About 11.40pm, while the 25-year-old man was sitting in a stairwell of a beer garden at the hotel, several unknown men have approached the man and an argument ensued.

The argument turned physical with a glass being broken with the 23-year-old man allegedly assaulting a 25-year-old man.

Officers from South Sydney Police Area Command attended and located the older man with several cuts to his face.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to St Vincent's Hospital for treatment.

About 5.30pm yesterday (Monday 29 July 2019), a 23-year-old man attended Merrylands Police Station where he was arrested and charged with malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court today (Tuesday 30 July 2019).
