Charges after Hurlstone Park stand-off, NSW

A man is due to appear in court today charged after a two-hour stand-off with police at Hurlstone Park, NSW Police say.

Police from Ashfield Local Area Command were called to the home in Duntroon Street about 12pm (Friday 29 December 2017), after reports a man was damaging the building.

Negotiators were called to the scene and a perimeter was established. About 2pm the man surrendered to police and he was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for treatment.

About 11pm, the 46-year-old man was released into the custody of police and he was taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with five offences:

• Use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention

• Destroy or damage property (three counts), and

• Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm.

The man was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court later today (Saturday 30 December 2017).

Police will allege in excess of an estimated $100,000 damage has been caused to the home. A police vehicle was also damaged when items were allegedly thrown from the house.
