Charges after man found seriously injured in Newcastle

A man has been charged after another man was found seriously injured at Newcastle yesterday, NSW Police say.

Emergency services were called to a unit on Fowler Street, in the Newcastle suburb of Hamilton South, about 9.30am yesterday (Tuesday 10 April 2018), after a man was found seriously injured inside.

The 59-year-old man was treated for serious head injuries and taken to John Hunter Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Officers from Newcastle City Police District established a crime scene and launched an investigation.

Following inquiries, a 36-year-old man was arrested at the unit block.

The man was taken to Newcastle Police Station and charged with cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent, and destroy or damage property.

He was bail refused to appear at Newcastle Local Court today (Wednesday 11 April 2018).

Initial inquiries suggest the men are known to each other.
