Charges after man shot in Tamworth

A man has been charged over the death of a man near Tamworth yesterday.

About 10:40pm (Wednesday 26 December 2018), three men and five children, from Sydney's south-west, were at a property on Coomoo Coomoo Road, Bundella, about 100km east of Quirindi.

Police have been told a 40-year-old man removed a rifle out of his car to clean it when a round was fired and hit a 23-year-old man. He died at the scene.

Detectives from Oxley Police District attended the property and commenced an investigation.

The 41-year-old man was spoken to by officers from Oxley Police District before being taken to Quirindi Police Station where he was charged with manslaughter.

He was refused bail and will appear in Tamworth Local Court on 28 December 2018.

Police have seized the firearm as their investigations continue.
