Charges after stolen car crashes at Glenelg, SA

A Magill man has been charged after a pursuit and collisions in Adelaide's eastern and southern suburbs yesterday, according to SA Police.

Just before midday yesterday (Tuesday 18 October) police attempted to stop a stolen blue VT commodore on South Street at Magill.

Shortly after the stolen car collided with a police vehicle and was last seen travelling north on St Bernards Road.

The stolen Commodore which was being driven erratically, was not pursued but sighted through the eastern suburbs, then southern suburbs of Adelaide along South Road to Bedford Park and O'Halloran Hill.

Moments later the same stolen car collided with a member of the public's car and a police car on Morphett Road near the Marion Shopping Centre, however the man driving the stolen car continued.

On two occasions the tyres of the Commodore were road spiked by police. PolAir kept observations on the stolen car as it weaved through back streets of Glenelg, until it eventually coming to a stop on the corner of Brighton Road and Anzac Highway at Glenelg.

A man ran from the stolen car and allegedly threatened two women from another car with a knife, in an attempt to steal their vehicle, but the suspect was tasered by police patrols and arrested.

The 26-year-old man was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital but has since been discharged.

He has been charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle, engaging in a police pursuit, attempted aggravated robbery and aggravated assault.

He will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court later today.

Two police vehicles and at least one member of the public's car was damaged with possible further vehicles damaged but yet to have been reported.
