Charges - Escape Custody - Tennant Creek

Tennant Creek police have arrested an 18-year-old male after he attempted to escape from custody.

The male was being escorted from the Tennant Creek Watch House to court when he allegedly assaulted a police officer and fled on foot.

Whilst handcuffed, the man scaled a fence and fled before being apprehended by police on Limonite Street a short time later.

The police officer sustained abrasions to his hand.

The offender has been charged with:

  • Escape Lawful Custody
  • Assault Police
  • Resist Police in the Execution of Duty

The offender has been remanded in custody until 1 March 2019.

Superintendent Kylie Anderson said police and other emergency services workers being assaulted when simply trying to do their job in maintaining a safer Northern Territory is completely unacceptable.

"We will push for the maximum penalty on assaults of any kind towards our police and emergency services members".
