Charges Filed After Armed Robberies in Melbourne's SE

Moorabbin Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a spate of armed robberies across Melbourne's south east.

The 31-year-old from Croydon man was arrested this morning after an extended follow through Cheltenham and Heatherton.

With the assistance of the Air Wing, officers followed the vehicle from Benkel Avenue to St Andrews Drive, where stop sticks were successfully deployed.

Officers swiftly arrested the man on nearby Peachtree Place about 11.10am.

The man has since been charged with:

• 3 x attempted armed robbery

• 4 x armed robbery

• aggravated carjacking

• theft of motor vehicle

• false report

• dangerous driving whilst pursued by police

• reckless conduct endangering life

• commit indictable offence whilst on bail.

The charges follow a series of alleged armed robberies, including:

• an attempted armed robbery at a service station on Warrigal Road in Oakleigh on 28 April

• an armed robbery at a service station on Centre Road in Moorabbin on 30 April

• an attempted armed robbery at a business on main Street, Mordialloc on 30 April

• a second attempted armed robbery at a business on Main Street, Mordialloc, on 30 April

• an armed robbery at a service station on Princes Highway in Officer on 2 May

• an armed robbery and aggravated carjacking on Centre Road in Moorabbin on 6 May

• an armed robbery at a service station on Frankston-Dandenong Road in Carrum Downs on 6 May

• an armed robbery at a service station on Princes Highway in Mulgrave on 6 May.

He will appear before Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.
