A man is due in court today charged with allegedly stealing bottles of red wine worth $11,000 from eight liquor stores.
In January this year, police commenced an investigation into multiple shoplifting offences across the metropolitan area between January and April 2026.
They linked thefts from liquor shops at suburbs including Rhodes, Kirribilli, Double Bay, Burwood, Martin Place and Thornleigh, with the stolen wine valued at $11,000.
An arrest warrant was issued for a 34-year-old man over the alleged thefts and, about 9:45pm yesterday (Saturday 15 August 2026), officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command arrested the wanted man in Moores Lane, Waterloo.
Police will allege eight bottles of red wine were found when his backpack was searched. The wine had an estimated total value of $2000.
The man was taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with two counts of having goods in custody suspected of being stolen, and resist arrest.
He was also charged with outstanding warrants for eight previous shoplifting offences, as well as traffic/pursuit offence, being armed with Intent to commit indictable offence, malicious damage, resist arrest.
A revocation of parole warrant was also executed.
The man, from Guildford, was refused bail to attend Bail Division Court 7 today (Sunday 16 August 2026).
