A woman will face court today after she allegedly attempted to murder another woman in a domestic violence-related incident in Lake Macquarie.
About 4.30pm yesterday (Sunday 1 February 2026), emergency services were called to Charles Street, Blackalls Park, following reports of an assault.
At the scene, police were told a woman had allegedly assaulted a 71-year-old woman known to her with a hammer and knife.
The woman then left the scene in a vehicle that was allegedly stolen from Narara Street at Fassifern.
The injured woman was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to the John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
A crime scene was established and police attached to Lake Macquarie Police District commenced inquiries into the incident.
During a search of the area, police located the stolen vehicle crashed and abandoned on Fassifern Road.
A 39-year-old woman was arrested following a search of nearby bushland before being taken to Toronto Police Station.
There she was charged with three offences,
- Cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder (DV),
- Contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic), and
- Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner.
She was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 today (Monday 2 February 2026).
