Charges following firefighter assault

Police have charged a man following an alleged assault on two firefighters in Bacchus Marsh last night (3 February).

Emergency services were called to a Shea Street address about 9.30pm after reports of a fire burning on a total fire ban day.

Upon arrival, two occupants of the home allegedly became involved in an altercation with two male firefighters before assaulting them.

Both firefighters sustained minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.

Police arrested a 22-year-old man and a 47-year-old man a short time later.

The 22-year-old has been charged with assault emergency worker on duty, assault, affray and threats to kill.

He has been bailed to appear at Bacchus Marsh Magistrates' Court on 8 March.

The 47-year-old man is expected to be charged on summons with lighting a fire during a fire danger period, affray and assault emergency worker on duty.
