Charges laid after girl indecently assaulted in Leichhardt

Police have charged a man following an investigation into the indecent assault of a girl in Sydney’s inner west, NSW Police say.

About 4.45pm on Wednesday 6 June 2018, a 16-year-old girl caught a train from Burwood Railway Station to Lewisham before leaving the station and walking down Thomas Street.

Police will allege in court a man followed the girl through Leichhardt and onto Flood Street before he grabbed her and indecently assaulted her.

A member of the public came to her aid and the man ran from the scene. The girl suffered minor injuries to her leg and hand.

Officers from Leichhardt Police Area Command attended and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, a 25-year-old man was arrested outside a property in Belmore Street, Burwood, about 6.20am today (Wednesday 20 June 2018).

He was taken to Burwood Police Station where he was charged with indecent assault, stalk and intimidation, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The South Korean National was refused bail and is due to appear at Burwood Local Court today.
