Charges laid after man detained woman in North Lambton

A man will face court today after he allegedly attempted to detain a woman in Newcastle, NSW Police say.

About 11.30am on Friday 8 December 2017, a 23-year-old man attended a home on Sunset Boulevard, North Lambton, and attempted to speak to one of the residents.

It will be alleged the man grabbed the 20-year-old woman, before she managed to escape and fled to a nearby facility to contact police.

Officers attached to Newcastle City Local Area Command attended the location and commenced an investigation.

Just before 4.30pm, the 23-year-old man attended Waratah Police Station and spoke to police.

He was arrested and charged with assault with intent sexual assault and detain with intent to obtain advantage.

The man, who is a Chinese National, was refused bail and is due to appear at Newcastle Local Court today (Saturday 9 December 2017).
