Charges laid against escapee at Walgett

A man has been arrested after allegedly running from police custody in the state's north.

On Monday (30 March 2020), police will allege a 37-year-old man escaped from custody at Walgett Police Station after he was formally refused bail.

Following extensive inquiries, officers from Central North Police District located the man hiding in a freezer inside a home in Fox Street, Walgett, about 4pm today (Tuesday 31 March 2020).

He was arrested and taken to Walgett Police Station, where he was charged with inmate escape/attempt to escape from lawful custody, and contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (domestic).

The man was refused bail to appear at Dubbo Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 1 April 2020).
