Charges Laid in Stolen Vehicle Pursuit, Central North NSW

A man has been charged with several offences after multiple pursuits of a stolen vehicle in the state's north.

About 8.35pm on Wednesday 8 February 2023, officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District were notified that a white Toyota Landcruiser had been stolen from Dubbo.

About 10.30pm that day, officers attached to Central North Police District were notified that a man was allegedly attempting to steal fuel from a rural property near Walgett.

Police commenced a pursuit of the vehicle which was terminated a short time later due to the dangerous manner of driving.

About 11pm, a second pursuit was initiated by police in Lightning Ridge, which was also terminated.

Following inquiries, about 9am yesterday (Thursday 9 February), police in Lightning Ridge arrested a 22-year-old man after a foot pursuit.

The man was taken to Walgett Police Station and charged with the following offences:

  • Police pursuit – not stop – drive at speed – two counts
  • Resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty
  • Steal motor vehicle
  • Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner
  • Drive motor vehicle while licence suspended
  • Three arrest warrants executed

He was refused bail to appear at Lightning Ridge Local Court on Tuesday 14 February 2023.
