Charges laid over alleged armed robberies

Three men have been charged following a series of alleged armed robberies on taxi drivers in Melbourne’s west, Victoria Police say.

Altona North Embona Taskforce detectives have investigated a number of incidents where drivers have allegedly had cash and mobile phones stolen.

The incidents took place in suburbs including Yarraville, West Footscray and Travencore from 9 June to 2 July.

Three men have now been charged and each will appear in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court in the coming months.

A 19-year-old Footscray man has been charged with armed robbery and false imprisonment.

A 27-year-old Footscray man has been charged with armed robbery, possess firearm and commit indictable offence whilst on bail.

A 19-year-old Ardeer man was charged with multiple counts of armed robbery,

commit indictable offence whilst on bail and attempted armed robbery.
