Charges laid over indecent assault at aged care facility in Charlestown

A man has been charged after an alleged indecent assault at an aged care facility in Charlestown, NSW Police say.

About 8.30am on Friday 11 May 2018, a man told staff at the facility he was waiting for a 94-year-old woman to finish her breakfast.

About 9.30am a staff member entered the woman’s room and saw the man allegedly indecently assaulting her.

The man followed the staff member out of the room, he questioned her before returning to the woman’s room.

He was not seen again by staff.

Officers from Lake Macqaurie Police Area Command were notified and commenced an investigation.

About 3.30pm on Tuesday 10 July 2018 an 83-year-old man was charged with indecent assault and has been granted conditional bail.

The man will appear before Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 9 August 2018.
