Charges laid over serious assault, NSW

Two men have been charged over an alleged serious assault in Surry Hills last month, NSW Police say.

Just after midnight on Sunday 8 April 2018, emergency services were called to a hotel in Elizabeth Street, following reports of an assault.

On arrival, officers from Surry Hills Police Area Command found a 56-year-old man with injuries to his face and head.

He was treated on scene before he was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Police commenced an investigation and, following extensive enquiries, two men were arrested at Surry Hills Police Station on Tuesday 8 May 2018.

A 26-year-old man was charged with common assault and affray. He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 14 June 2018.

A 40-year-old man was charged with common assault affray. He was granted conditional bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 7 June 2018.

Inquiries continue.
