Charges – Suspicious fires in Dalby, QLD

Officers from Dalby Criminal Investigations Branch have charged a boy after investigations into two suspicious fires in January, Queensland Police say.

A 15-year-old Cunnamulla boy has been charged with three counts each of stealing, two counts each of wilful damage, and one count each of possession of suspected stolen property, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlicensed driving and possession of a knife in a public place.

Police are investigating two suspicious fires at sporting grounds in Dalby over the past 24 hours.

Preliminary information suggests around 3am yesterday unknown people attended the soccer club located on Bligh Street and lit a fire within the building before fleeing the scene.

The premises became fully engulfed and sustained significant damage as a result.

At approximately 11.30pm last night unknown people also started a fire in the grand stand of Bunya Park Race Course on Owen Street.

The structure was well alight when emergency crews arrived and extinguished the blaze.

Investigators are appealing for anyone in the area who may have seen anything suspicious at the time of the fires to contact Dalby police or call Crime Stoppers.
