Charges - Use of a carriage service in Alice Springs

An investigation by the Child Abuse Taskforce and the Domestic Violence Unit in the Southern region has resulted in the arrest of a 22-year-old male over sexual offences.

It is alleged that between October 2017, the male used the social media application Snapchat to interact with seven females in Alice Springs aged between 14 and 16, and a 15-year-old female in the United Kingdom around August 2018.

It was reported to police that the male sought to obtain nude images, ask sexually inappropriate questions and send unsolicited nude images to the victims.

Enquiries by detectives and the Joint Agency Child Exploitation Team led police to an Alice Springs address linked to the IP address of the male.

Today detectives from Child Abuse Taskforce and the Domestic Violence Unit executed a search warrant at the address, resulting in the arrest of the male.

He was conveyed to the Alice Springs Watch House where he was charged with:

  • 7 counts of Using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence
  • 4 counts of Using a carriage service to prepare or plan to cause harm to, engage in sexual activity with, or procure for sexual activity, persons under 16.

Bail is yet to be determined.
