Chester Release - Veteran and Community Grants Announced

VETERAN AND COMMUNITY GRANTS ANNOUNCED

FUNDING of more than $390,000 has today been announced under the latest round of the Veteran and Community Grants Program.

Minister for Veterans' Affairs Darren Chester said the 33 grants from this round would directly benefit veterans and their families.

"The Government is putting veterans and their families first and provides more than $11.2 billion each year to deliver the essential services and programs they can rely on," Mr Chester said.

"The Government recognises the service and sacrifice of veterans and their families, and is assisting ex-service organisations and community groups with funding that goes directly to support health and wellbeing within the veteran community."

The 33 grants provided to organisations helping veterans in the community will mean that close to 100 grants totalling more than $1 million would be allocated this year.

"This round of funding will assist in reducing social isolation by providing a series of bus trips, upgrading facilities ensuring a safe environment for members, providing first aid training for volunteers and purchasing IT equipment to produce newsletters," Mr Chester said.

"I would like to congratulate all successful applicants and thank them for the continued support in helping the men and women who served in the defence of our nation."

The Veteran and Community Grants program will continue to assess applications in batches throughout the year.
