Child left in car, woman charged in Hurstville

A woman has been charged after allegedly leaving a child unsupervised in a car in Sydney’s south yesterday, NSW Police say.

Police were called to a shopping centre car park on Forest Road, Hurstville, about 11.30am today, responding to concerns that a child was unattended in a parked car.

Police attached to St George Local Area Command were told a 39-year-old woman had parked there about 10.40am and entered the shopping centre, leaving her 15-month-old girl inside the car.

The child was removed from the vehicle and assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics on scene; she did not require transportation to hospital.

The woman was arrested and taken to St George Police Station where she was charged with leave child/young person in motor vehicle causing emotional distress.

She was granted bail and is due to appear before Sutherland Local Court on Tuesday 24 October 2017.

The Department of Family and Community Services (FACS) have been notified.
