Child stabbed in chest; man charged at Bourke

A man has been charged after a child was allegedly stabbed in the chest at Bourke overnight.

Officers from Central North Police District have been told a 24-year-old man allegedly stabbed a 12-year-old boy twice in the chest outside a home in Hamilton Place about 6pm (Monday 23 March 2020).

The boy was taken to Bourke Hospital where he was treated before being airlifted to The Children's Hospital at Westmead. Police have been told he remains there in a stable condition.

Police arrested the man about 6.45pm and took him to Bourke Police Station where he was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The man, from Mt Austin, been refused bail to appear in Bourke Local Court today (Tuesday 24 March 2020).
