A child is in a stable condition in hospital after allegedly being shot in the leg during a hunting trip near Bourke overnight.
An investigation was commenced after a nine-year-old boy suffering a gunshot wound to his right thigh, was taken to Bourke Hospital about 7.15pm yesterday (Friday 11 July 2025).
Officers attached to Central North Police District have been told the boy was injured while on a hunting trip with nine others at a property about 40km north of Bourke.
Police have spoken with the group, which compirses four boys, aged between nine and 15, and five men, aged between 37 and 63. All are from Victoria.
Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are underway with 17 firearms – including air rifles, rifles and a shotgun – seized. Inquiries into the group's firearms licences are ongoing.
