CFA has evacuated 40 children from a community centre in Mernda, after reports there was a strong smell described as kerosene coming from the premises.
CFA says there is no threat to the community
Crews were called to the Mernda Village Community Arts centre this morning (Wed) around 10.50am.
All children from the early learning centre have been evacuated safely to the neighbouring Mernda Primary School, and parents have been notified.
A further 6-8 people from the community centre have also been evacuated.
CFA says there is no threat to the community.
A gas detector will be on scene shortly to try and determine the cause of the smell.
Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria are also on scene.
