Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's (CHOP) Department of Nursing and Clinical Care Services hosted the inaugural Visiting Mentorship for Multicultural Advanced Practice Provider Program from June 7-11, 2021. Nine multicultural students from across the U.S., each in their last month of Advanced Practice Provider education, participated in this week-long program. Of the nine students, eight were nurse practitioner students and one was a physician assistant student. Throughout the week, they immersed themselves in CHOP's Philadelphia Campus and the city itself.
The students worked with preceptors, mentors and CHOP faculty and staff to learn about various career opportunities at CHOP and were provided with a robust schedule, lectures and discussions with clinical leaders.
CHOP is committed to meeting the needs of the populations we serve and one way of doing so is by increasing diversity in healthcare. The inaugural Visiting Mentorship for Multicultural Advanced Practice Provider Program was a success and demonstrates CHOP's dedication to building a more diverse talent pipeline and workforce.
