Speers Point Park will jingle all the way through Sunday evening as Lake Mac Carols unwraps the Christmas cheer.

A family favourite for generations, this year's event kicks off at 3pm, with children's entertainers The Quokkas taking to the main stage at 5pm before the evening entertainment begins at 6pm.

Lake Macquarie Mayor Adam Shultz said a highlight of the evening would be a 7pm visit by Santa Claus.

"It is almost a rite of passage to welcome Christmas with an evening of carols in Speers Point Park," he said.

"Hundreds of thousands of people have done it over so many years, and I'm looking forward to seeing lots more smiling faces on Sunday evening."

"Lake Mac Carols is a wonderful opportunity to share the festive magic and turn the corner to the final run to Christmas."

This year's performers include Hannah Quinn, Steph Russell, Jerome O'Connor, Komiti Levai and Pacific Harmony.

The event will include market stalls, food and drink vans and a Domaine Homes Kids' Zone with a range of family-friendly activities.

The Cameron Park unit of the NSW Rural Fire Service will also attend the event, selling battery-powered candles, exhibiting one of its fire trucks and a smaller four-wheel drive unit and teaching visitors about fire safety.

Mayor Adam said Lake Mac Carols would also be an opportunity to help local families in need at Christmas.

"We'll be collecting non-perishable food, gifts and cash donations to support local families via Sugar Valley Neighbourhood Centre," he said.

"The centre provides programs, support services, playgroups, food relief and outreach to individuals and families across the city."

"It's so important throughout the year - but particularly at Christmas - to do what we can to strengthen connection, wellbeing and inclusion in our community."

This year's Lake Mac Carols are proudly sponsored by Domaine Homes, Cardiff Motor Group, and Scion Audio and Events.

Pre-paid $10 parking spaces in Macquarie Field can be booked online, or available for purchase for $15 onsite, on the day with plenty of other car parking spaces a little further afield.
