Christmas spirit flies high with young artists' festive flags

Twenty talented school-aged artists have helped dress Townsville in cheer with their tropical Christmas designs turned into festive flags.

More than 300 submissions filled with holiday fun were made to the festive flag competition.

Cr Hill said the competition was a fantastic way to help celebrate Christmas together as a community.

"Initially there were meant to be 11 winners, but we have so much young artistic talent in this city that we had to almost double the number of winning entries," Cr Hill said.

"All 20 winners have been invited to Townsville Eats on November 29 to receive a certificate for their entry and to be congratulated on having their wonderful design selected to decorate our city."

The flags are currently being installed on Flinders St, and will also be installed along The Strand and at Riverway.

The designs will also be on display at Carols by Candlelight.
