Christmas Up Close

There's no question that our city is home to one of the most festive of Christmas celebrations, and this year's opening event again promises to be a truly special night.

This year the tree will be closer to the shore, allowing for the new Geelong to Docklands ferry to berth safely nearby. Meaning spectators can enjoy a better view of the tree in all its twinkling and star embellished glory.

Entertainment will begin at 7.00pm and will include both roving and on-stage performances. Families can expect to hear from family favourite the Mik Maks, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Andy Pobjoy and Friends, Medimime, and 2019 Geelong's Best Busker winners Garry Jones and Star Lawson.

It has become tradition for one lucky child to flick the switch on the floating Christmas tree and this year will be no different. One child – selected at random – will light the tree to officially launch the City's Christmas celebrations.

The entertainment continues at City Hall with the launch of the Christmas projections at 9.00pm. This year we're excited to welcome back local artist Matt Bonner who will be creating a show reel celebrating Christmas through the decades.

The City and Central Geelong Marketing thank the GeelongPort for their support and involvement, and also local companies Hanlon Industries, Total Events and Elstone Diving Services.
