About Agnes Obrien

Agnes Obrien, born in Portafairy, County Down, Ireland in 1935, migrated to Australia at the age of 18 and made Doveton her home in 1976. From the moment she arrived, Agnes became a pillar of the community-especially for young people. She championed youth engagement through sport, helped launch the Vic Kick (now AusKick) program, and managed the children's team at the local footy club. Her efforts extended beyond sport, offering childcare, support, and a safe haven to anyone in need.

Agnes's contributions were formally recognised with a City of Berwick Certificate of Merit in 1993, and she was nominated for Citizen of the Year. Her legacy continues to inspire, with many community members calling for her memory to be permanently honoured.
