City Reveals Top Dog Names & Breeds

Bella has prevailed as the most popular dog name in Greater Geelong, while Luna has topped the list for cats.

We've compiled the most liked names and breeds from the more than 30,200 dogs and 10,500+ cats registered in our region.

Charlie, Luna, Ruby and Daisy round out the top five pooch names and Charlie, Bella, Leo and Coco are the other favourites for felines.

Our data shows that Border Collie working dogs and Domestic Shorthair cats are the most preferred breeds among residents.

Lara residents have taken top spot for the highest number of registrations for cats and dogs.

Having a constant companion who gives unconditional love is invaluable.

Our four-legged friends are a beloved part of the family and are scientifically known to increase owners' physical and mental wellbeing through lower stress levels, increased fitness and more opportunities to socialise.

Our fenced dog parks at Aldershot Reserve, Belmont Park, Stead Park and Hovells Creek Public Recreation Reserve are a great way to keep dogs happy and healthy.

This is a timely reminder to register your pet with the City because registered pets get reunited.

We're also supporting the RSPCA Victoria's Rethink Roaming initiative urging community members to keep their cats safe by containing them to their properties, with the average cat roaming 6,570 hours and up to 300 kilometres per year.
