The City has secured a 143-hectare parcel of land in Mount Nathan as part of its Natural Areas Acquisition Program.

The extensive property was purchased for its significant size, its environmental values and the strategic location within the Clagiraba to South Moreton Bay Wildlife Corridor.

This site will add to the City's existing 14,000 plus hectares of conservation estate made up of over 800 reserves.

Since 2021, the Natural Areas Acquisition Program has purchased eight properties covering a total area of 322.7 hectares.

"Our latest land acquisition will provide a critical link between Nerang National Park in the northeast and Lower Beechmont Conservation Area in the south," Mayor Tom Tate said.

"This area is incredibly important habitat for threatened native species including the Glossy Black Cockatoo and koalas.

"It also provides the City with an opportunity to enhance the habitat through restoration and the use of potential offsets."

The Natural Areas Acquisition Program focusses on acquiring land with high environmental values to link natural areas within the City's biodiversity areas network, to ensure their long-term viability and secure pathways for wildlife movement.

The program complements other City driven conservation initiatives, such as private land partnerships and natural area reserve management to protect and restore habitat across both public and private land.

The Natural Areas Acquisition Program is funded through the City's Open Space including Koala Habitat Maintenance and Enhancement Separate Charge.

It successfully contributes to the Council Plan 'Naturally Unique' theme and Our Natural City Strategy 2032 measures including connected and restored critical nature corridors and 51% native vegetation cover.
