The City of Perth's second verge collection for 2018 has diverted 34 tonnes of material from landfill, a 10% increase from earlier in the year.
The verge collection by the City's Waste and Cleansing Unit removed more than 91 tonnes of unwanted goods from residents and ratepayers, over two days in September.
Chair of Commissioners Eric Lumsden said 37 per cent of items removed were recycled.
"The City is an advocate for sustainable waste management, and we have taken new approaches to ensure greater efficiency," Commissioner Lumsden said.
"Our Waste and Cleansing teams collected green waste, metals and mattresses separately in the latest verge collection, to ensure these materials were correctly recycled.
"All other waste was collected together and taken to a sorting facility where cardboard, metals and timber were also recycled.
"The increase in waste diverted from landfill is a strong result, and the City will continue work with residents and ratepayers to educate and cut down on recyclable and reusable material going to landfill."
The next verge collection is scheduled for March 2019.
