City Services Closing for Severe Weather Prep

Palm Beach Aquatic and Community Centre

Several non-critical City of Gold Coast services will be closed from 5pm today (Wednesday) due to the expected impacts of Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

City of Gold Coast CEO Tim Baker said safety was our number one priority with all efforts focused on disaster response activity.

"The advice from authorities is to stay home, and as such it is appropriate we close facilities that are not essential," Mr Baker.

"It also allows us to prioritise critical services like water and focus on cyclone response activities."

Mr Baker said at this stage these facilities would be closed until at least close of business Friday.

"We will only reopen these sites when it is safe to do so for both our staff and the community."

Mr Baker also reminded residents that household bins would not be collected this Thursday and Friday.

"Please do not put them out. Stow them away safely where they cannot be blown away or spill."

The following facilities will be closed from 5pm today:

  • Sporting venues (not being used as evacuation centres)
  • All aquatic centres
  • All libraries
  • Community centres (not being used for evacuation centres)
  • All Customer Service Centres
  • Waste and Recycling Centres and landfills
