City to provide Waste Reduction Grants through Annual Community Grants Program

The City of Greater Bendigo is again offering up to $15,000 in funding for Waste Reduction Grants through its annual Community Grants Program.

City of Greater Bendigo Resource Recovery and Education Manager Brooke Pearce said this is the second year the City's Resource Recovery and Education unit has offered the waste reduction grants.

"The City of Greater Bendigo is committed to reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill and the aim of the grants is to support projects that avoid waste from being generated," Ms Pearce said.

"Last year the grant helped fund the Retub, re-useable take away food container initiative and this year we will be looking for initiatives or projects that help lessen the generation of waste in the first place.

"This year we will consider small, medium or larger projects which means the available funds could be distributed to one applicant or shared amongst multiple projects."

The Waste Reduction Grants will be advertised as part of the City of Greater Bendigo Community Grants Program. Applications for the program opened on March 2 and will close on March 31, 2020.

Each year the City provides approximately $1M in community grants and the following grants types are available:

  • Small grants - up to $3,000 (can apply at any time)
  • Medium grants - up to $10,000 (can apply three times per year)
  • Large grants - up to $50,000 - with a maximum of $25,000 in any financial year (can apply biennially)
  • Community Group Essentials grants - up to $3,000 (can apply at any time)
  • Social Innovation/Transformation grants (can apply annually)
