The City of Gold Coast is seeking all community champions who help keep our community safe with nominations opening for the Safer Suburbs Awards.
Mayoral Safer Suburbs Forum chair and Division 2 Councillor Naomi Fowler said all Gold Coasters are encouraged to put forward those who help keep our city safe, more resilient and connected.
"There are so many amazing organisations and individuals out there who work hard to ensure our city is safe and stronger together," Cr Fowler said.
"The awards are about highlighting the work of those outstanding individuals and organisations including community groups who work so hard for the Gold Coast.
"These groups and individuals are proof that working together we can create a safer, more connected and cohesive community."
A wide range of projects and groups have been recognised previously, including mentoring at-risk young people, supporting people to get home safely from our entertainment precincts, preventing domestic and family violence and providing meals and other support to vulnerable residents.
The Safer Suburbs Awards are held every two years and include three categories:
- Individual: Residents including young people, seniors and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
- Group: Not-for-profit community groups
- Project or initiative: projects lead by schools, community groups, government agencies and businesses
The Meritorious Award will be given to the nomination, in any category, which demonstrates special merit.
The 2023 Meritorious Award winners were Brett and Belinda Beasley and the Jack Beasley Foundation for their work to reduce knife crime and Everything Suarve for their Big Brother program aimed at improving the lives of our most disadvantaged youth.
Nominations close on 7 July 2025.
All finalists will be recognised and winners announced at the Safer Suburbs Awards Ceremony in October.
