City to welcome new Strategy and Growth Director

The City of Greater Bendigo has appointed Steve Hamilton to the role of Director Strategy and Growth and he will start with the organisation on Monday August 16.

Mr Hamilton joins the City from Maribyrnong City Council, where he is currently the Director Infrastructure Services. Previously he has worked at Darebin City Council where he was Acting CEO and also Director City Futures, and other roles have been in the private sector and also with VicTrack.

Mr Hamilton said he looked forward to taking on a leadership role in a regional Council.

"This is an exciting opportunity for me. My experience has been in building, leading and managing diverse teams and large-scale businesses and organisations across Australia and internationally, while remaining people-focused and building positive workplace culture," he said.

"My previous roles have involved strategic and statutory planning and managing complex customer-facing services, so I look forward to this experience supporting staff across portfolios like Bendigo Art Gallery, The Capital and Ulumbarra theatres, and Bendigo Airport.

"I also have a great interest in the arts and creative industries and am excited by Bendigo's UNESCO City of Gastronomy designation and reputation as a leading cultural and events centre in regional Victoria.

"I have had a long connection with Bendigo through family visits, kids' sport and holidaying in the region, so I welcome this opportunity to get to know the local community better and support Council to implement its new Council Plan."

City Chief Executive Officer Craig Niemann said Mr Hamilton brings with him extensive experience.

"Steve's career has focused on people and cultural leadership, advocacy, relationship building and business growth, and his roles have included land use planning, the environment, water and waste management, and major project delivery," Mr Niemann said.

"He has also been involved in significant advocacy to State Government and is well connected with various departments that we regularly do business with and need their support to deliver for our community.

"We look forward to Steve joining us next month and welcome his contribution to shaping the future of our city and region."
