The City is marking '7 Years to Go' until the Paralympic Games in 2032 with a fun-filled day celebrating inclusion, community and sports at Pizzey Park, Miami on Sunday.
Acting Mayor Mark Hammel and Division 12 Councillor Nick Marshall will be joined by 4 x Paralympic gold medallist Curtis McGrath, to showcase free sports and fitness activities highlighting the City's inclusive and accessible facilities.
"Gold Coasters are invited to join us at Pizzey Park on Sunday 24 August to have a go at para sports activities like wheelchair basketball, wheelchair cricket, boccia, climbing and more," Acting Mayor Hammel said.
"This is an inclusive event for people of all ages and abilities and demonstrates the City's commitment to providing accessible sporting facilities for Gold Coasters.
"The countdown is on for the Paralympic Games in 2032 so come along and enjoy a free day of sports and activities to help us celebrate."
The event will also include free Active and Healthy classes as well as live music, DJs, athlete appearances and interactive presentations on an accessible stage.
Councillor Marshall said, "whether you're into para sport, active recreation, nutrition or physical activity, there's something for everyone at this weekend's event.
"Pizzey Park is one of our many sporting and recreational facilities in the city that caters to all abilities and it's fantastic to be able to showcase that to the community."
In line with the event, the City has launched a digital accessible tool in partnership with Cerge to prepare the city for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The digital accessible tools include a 360-degree virtual tour, visual story and sensory guide, audio guide, accessibility guide and keyword sign boards for select Gold Coast venues.
"This is a ground breaking initiative that will provide an immediate and significant uplift in publicly available information about accessible facilities for our community.
"It will empower people with disabilities, along with parents, carers and support workers to plan ahead and make an informed decision before arrival," Acting Mayor Hammel added.
