Class 1 CTP Insurance: Cheapest in Mainland Australia

Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training The Honourable Ros Bates
  • Queenslanders continue to have access to the cheapest CTP insurance in Australia for Class 1 vehicles.
  • Changes to pricing start on renewals from 1 October.
  • Queenslanders can choose between three insurers for Compulsory Third Party Insurance.

Queensland will continue to have the lowest compulsory third party insurance for sedans and station wagons in mainland Australia, following updated rates commencing 1 October 2025.

Class 1 vehicle (cars and station wagons) CTP will increase between $4 and $19 across the three insurers, while Class 6 vehicles (small trucks, vans and utes) will increase of between $5 and $23.

Compulsory Third Party insurance is included in vehicle registration and protects motorists from being held financially responsible in the case if injury in a motor vehicle accident.

Motorists are encouraged to review their CTP insurance options before renewing their registration.

During the former Labor Government's decade of decline, an insurer quit the CTP insurance industry and Labor left their own review sitting on the shelf, which left the market on the verge of collapsing and massive price hikes for Queenslanders.

In just ten months, the Crisafulli Government has saved the scheme and returned competition to the market which delivered downward pressure on cost of living for Queenslanders.

Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training Ros Bates said Queenslanders would continue to have access to the cheapest CTP of anywhere on mainland Australia.

"We have continued to deliver downward pressure on cost of living to help Queenslanders and have saved them from the massive price hikes that would have happened after Labor's decade of decline," Minister Bates said.

"Queenslanders who drive a car will have the cheapest CTP insurance for sedans and station wagons in mainland Australia.

"By shopping between the three licensed insurers, motorists will be able to secure the best possible deal on their CTP renewal."

The Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC) regulates Queensland's CTP insurance scheme to ensure it remains affordable for motorists while providing genuine support to those injured on our roads.

Queensland's Insurance Commissioner Neil Singleton said MAIC was committed to working with insurers to ensure motorists benefit from more competition.

"I am pleased to see some licensed insurers delivering for Queenslanders by offering more competitive premiums for the majority of registered vehicles," he said.
