Clean Up Commences As Conditions Ease In NSW

NSW SES

Easing severe weather conditions have allowed NSW State Emergency Service crews to commence clean-up operations.

Since Sunday, severe weather has impacted coastal areas from the Mid North Coast through to the Far South Coast, with the NSW SES and emergency partners responding to almost 4000 incidents.

NSW SES Deputy Commissioner Deb Platz APM said the focus today will be on clean up and damage assessments, particularly along the NSW South Coast.

"Our SES volunteers and emergency agency partners have been kept incredibly busy responding to a large number of fallen trees, downed powerlines, damaged properties and vehicles, as well as flood related tasks," Deputy Commissioner Platz said.

"Overnight we've seen the easing of weather conditions, which has led to the emergency warnings at Sanctuary Point and Burrill Lake being downgraded.

"While conditions have eased for much of the state, there are still four emergency warnings at Wamberal and The Entrance- North advising people to evacuate due to significant coastal erosion."

Despite the easing conditions, Deputy Commissioner Platz warned there may still be hazardous locations.

"We've seen a huge number of trees and powerlines come down during this event, and there has been damage to property. We ask the community to remain vigilant and be careful in storm impacted areas," she said.

"As conditions continue to improve crews will be undertaking damage assessments and helping people back on their feet."

More than 2,000 NSW SES volunteers and emergency service partners have been involved in the response. Three storm teams have also deployed from the ACT SES to assist impacted communities.
