Climate Weeks 2026: Korea, Azerbaijan Boost Paris Pact

UN Climate Change News, 18 February 2026 - UN Climate Change has announced its two 2026 Climate Weeks will be in the Republic of Korea and Azerbaijan, with a focus on better connecting the negotiated outcomes and real-world action under the Paris Agreement, to drive faster implementation and spread more economic and social benefits to more people.

"With COP30 in Belém marking a new era of implementation, our 2026 Climate Weeks will help to show what real-world implementation of pledges and COP outcomes can look like in practice, and how it can deliver vast benefits to governments, businesses, communities and people on a major scale," said UN Climate Change Executive Secretary Simon Stiell.

"By connecting negotiators and government policy-makers with investors, real-economy and sub-national leaders and communities on the ground, we aim to boost both efficiency and impacts," said Stiell. "This includes by elevating the Climate Action Agenda - a vital part of the Paris Agreement where we are already seeing huge real-world-progress, and need to see much more in the crucial years ahead. We'll do this working closely with the COP30 and COP31 Presidencies."

This year's Climate Weeks will also build on the progress from last year in driving cost-savings for Parties, the secretariat and all participants, including by clustering of mandated events, and this year connecting them more closely with implementers attending the Climate Weeks. This will include convenings at a sectoral level, as well as events designed to reflect regional priorities and opportunities. This reflects feedback from participants putting a high value on these sectoral and regional lenses for the Climate Weeks.

"Between COP30 and COP31, the Climate Weeks are the moments where governments, finance leaders, and implementers, including from the private sector and subnational representatives, can dive into jointly building more of the practical mechanisms that deliver faster and wider outcomes on the ground," said UN Climate Change Deputy Executive Secretary Noura Hamladji. "It's about moving more quickly from aspirations - as vital as they are under the Paris Agreement - to real-world actions, delivering more benefits for more people."

The two Climate Weeks in 2026 will take place as follows:

  • In Yeosu, the Republic of Korea, from 21 to 25 April 2026.
  • In Baku, Azerbaijan, from 5 to 9 October 2026 (TBC).

"Through Climate Week 2026, Korea will share with the international community its vision of a 'decarbonized green society,'" said Kim Sung-whan, the Republic of Korea's Minister of Climate, Energy and Environment. "The event will mark an important milestone in showcasing Korea's climate solutions that can be deployed worldwide."

"We are honoured to host the UNFCCC's second Climate Week of 2026," said Mukhtar Babayev, former COP29 President and Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on climate issues.

"This gathering provides a timely chance to build on the momentum from COP29 in Baku and COP30 in Belém, while also looking ahead to COP31 in Antalya and to focus on how the commitments made there can be turned into concrete actions," said Babayev. "Climate Week in Baku will convene representatives from governments, international organizations, the private sector, subnational representatives, the scientific community, and civil society to explore how to sustain high ambition, build trust, strengthen cooperation, scale up climate solutions, and support implementation on the ground."
