Close out NAIDOC Week with First Nations Film Festival

Sunday 2 July 2023 marked the start of NAIDOC Week, a joyful occasion to honour the remarkable history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Following the resonating theme of 'For Our Elders,' Bass Coast Shire Council hosted a range of events.

Throughout the week, a series of engaging happenings were organised to celebrate art, theatre, and film, bringing together community members and staff from different parts of the organisation. One of the highlights was the acclaimed musical production titled The Sunshine Club, written by Noonuccal Nuugi man, Wesley Enoch. Showing at Wonthaggi Union Community Arts Centre on 29 June, the cast expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming support shown, with over 300 tickets sold and Indigenous Elders in the front row laughing and tapping their toes along to the songs.
