Closure of Operation Mackay Fraser

Officers Mackay Tactical Crime Squad (TCS), Mackay District and Brisbane Dog Squad closed Operation Mackay Fraser yesterday (May 31) following a weekend of policing operations targeting drug and traffic offences.

Between May 28 and May 31, police conducted high visibility operations ensuring the safety of patrons at a local festival.

A total of 93 people were charged on 195 offences, mostly including drug and traffic related matters.

Police conducted over 1,600 roadside breath tests which resulted in three drunk drivers. Officers also conducted 458 roadside drug driving tests, with 35 people testing positive.

A total of 54 Traffic Infringement Notices (TINs) were issues over the weekend.

Senior Sergeant Scott Ingram said it was disappointing to see so many people not only choosing to partake in illegal substances but to also drive under the influence.

"Our local police are committed to ensuring the safety of patrons at large festivals as well as the local community," Senior Sergeant Ingram said.

"We want to make sure everyone can attend these events and enjoy themselves then return home safely."
