Clothing Recycler On EPA Charge

A company that collects and recycles clothing will face the Moorabbin Magistrates Court in September after failing to act on an EPA notice.

Upparel, which operated from facilities in Cheltenham until a recent location change, was visited by EPA officers in November 2024. EPA will allege in court that they found dangerous levels of overstocking, with recycled clothing stacked too high, too close together and presenting too much of a fire risk.

Notices requiring Upparel to stop accepting more stock and run down the existing supply went ignored, EPA will allege.

The case is expected to be heard on 3 September.
