CLP Work To Rebuild Territory Continues This Sittings

NT Government

The Finocchiaro CLP Government is continuing to deliver on its commitment to rebuild the economy and restore the Territory lifestyle with a focused parliamentary agenda this week.

"In our year of action, certainty and security, we're delivering on our commitments to rebuild the economy and retore the Territory lifestyle," Leader of Government Business Steve Edgington said.

More Territorians will be able to step into their first home, with the Finocchiaro CLP Government to extend the Territory's nation-leading First Home Owner Grant until September 2026 with the extension bill before Parliament this week.

"This gives a new generation extra time to save, secure the right block, lock in a builder - and free up rental homes for others."

Since launching, the HomeGrown Grants have paid out $20 million, helping thousands of Territorians put down roots and build a future right here in the NT.

Also being debated this week are essential energy reforms to overhaul the three regulated electricity systems of Darwin-Katherine, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs.

"Territorians deserve power they can rely on. That's why the Finocchiaro CLP Government is reforming our electricity system and market."

The Chief Minister will introduce the Integrity & Ethics bill to establish the Integrity and Ethics Commissioner (IEC) - an independent statutory office that consolidates fragmented integrity functions into one accountable framework.

"We're rebuilding trust with a strong Integrity and Ethics Commission. For too long, the Labor-Greens-Johnston alliance turned integrity into a political game. Critical issues were ignored, duplication thrived, and public trust was shattered."

"Territorians will see greater accountability, tougher protections, and a focus on outcomes over bureaucracy."

The Bill will be introduced this week, with the aim to pass it in November, allowing a nation-wide recruitment process to begin for the inaugural Integrity and Ethics Commissioner.

The Building Legislation (Fidelity) Bill will also be introduced. The bill will establish a Residential Building Insurance (RBI) scheme and fidelity funds to better protect those building a home in the Territory.
